Healthy Living

My journey for health has been filled with a variety of emotions. At times I am very passionate and excited about teaching people what it means to have a healthy lifestyle, but truthfully, at other times I become frustrated I picked this platform in the first place.

I grew up in a very healthy home and never thought much of it. We would have broccoli at every dinner and strawberries for dessert, which I thought was the norm for every household.  It wasn’t until I left for college and was immersed into the world of ice cream runs at midnight that I realized the importance of taking care of my body.

I became fatigued and frustrated. I couldn’t focus on normal everyday decisions, had added mental and emotional stress, and my quality of life was greatly effected. It was far more than weight loss or weight gain, but the quality of my life was changing because of how I was eating. I finally got to the point where my health was effecting every area of my life, and this is when I decided to take charge. I made it a personal priority to take care of my body and made sure that taking care of myself both physically and emotionally was at the top of my to-do list.

One of my favorite things I get to do as Miss America is speak about my platform: #EatBetterLiveBetter. Whether its going into schools and teaching kids how to be label detectives, finding new and creative ways to make tasty meals, or living by example, my hope is to teach people tangible ways to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

I absolutely love how diverse #EatBetterLiveBetter can be. One direction it has taken is social media accountability. A movement of people using social media as accountability for working out and keeping our bodies healthy, while using the hashtag #MissAmericaWerk and #SavvyChoices as ways to find inspiration and reach our health goals.  Having a support system and a village of people cheering you on is imperative to reaching your goals.

I’m excited to talk more about my fitness journey, both highs and lows, and all the lessons I’ve learned from the months of training to be in a swimsuit on stage.

Much Love,

    Savvy,

My name is Kathryn Mack. I’m starting my junior year at Texas State University in the fall. I’ve always been on the smaller side but not as fit and happy as I would have liked. Before graduating from high school, I finally took charge. I went off to school and lost that. I’m in the process of finding myself, and my love for working out and being healthy. As another sorority and southern woman, I feel as if I can relate to you more. I want to thank you for unknowingly helping me and giving me motivation. You’re truly an inspiration.

    Lots of love,
    Kathryn Mack
